National senior men’s rugby team named for summer series

McMaster University Marauders, along with players from Oakville, have good representation on Rugby Canada’s roster for the upcoming series of International test matches taking place across Canada this summer. The National Senior Men will be taking on teams from the United States, at Richardson Stadium in Kingston, ON; Italy, at BMO Field in Toronto; and Georgia, at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC.

Of the 26 players chosen by head coach Kieran Crowley, four have worn the Maroon and Grey of the Marauders in university play. Mike Pletch, Tyler Ardon, and Mike Scholz have also played for the Ontario Blues while Aaron Carpenter was a member of Plymouth Albion.

In addition to Oakville native Scholz, brothers Phil Mackenzie and Jamie Mackenzie call Oakville home.

Over the last couple of years, the National Senior Men’s team had been focusing on the 2011 World Cup, however now their focus is set on the June test matches.
