Tough weather didn’t stop provincial champion Westdale runners


Hamilton’s Westdale Warriors junior girls cross country team has found gold in Sudbury.

Battling cold temperatures, a bitter wind, and the hilly trails at Laurentian University the Warriors laid claim to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations provincial junior crown on Saturday (Nov. 2).

The team finished the 4.21 kilometre course with a point total of 196, bettering silver medalists Christ the King Secondary School of Georgetown by a mere four points. Christ the King had 200.

The winning team, with their times, included Jasmine Buckridge (17:29), Chloe Hewitt (17.35), Mara Balvers 18:06), Emma Waddington (18.12), and Nicole Whitmore (19.16).

Thirty-seven schools from across Ontario competed in the division.
