Generals take over Steelhawks home

ACH logoHamilton Steelhawks proved to be more than gracious hosts Saturday night (Oct. 22) when they invited the Stoney Creek Generals to their Mountain Arena digs for an Allan Cup Hockey game. When it was time for the Generals to return home, last year’s ACH champs took an 11-3 win with them.

The loss evens Hamilton’s record at 1-1 while Stoney Creek is unbeaten in two outings.

Brothers Justin and Tyler Donati paced the Generals with a pair of goals and assists each.

Kyle McQuade led the home side with a goal and an assist.

The Generals get off to a fast start scoring a pair of goals in the first 65 seconds and by the end of the first period had a 6-0 lead. Hamilton would get on the board in the second when McQuade picked up his goal just under the four-minute mark.

Mitch McCrank would also tally a goal in the middle stanza, just under the halfway point of the game, on the power play. However, Stoney Creek added three more in the period. Rob Vanwynsberghe would pick up his first goal of the season with Hamilton at 8:43 but the Generals picked up two goals including one shorthanded to take the game.

The Steelhawks next game will be their first road game of the season when they make a trip to Whitby to face the Dunlops Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for all Hamilton Steelhawks home games are available for purchase at the team’s website or at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on game day.
