McMaster Names Steve Alfano the 2008 High School Football Achievement Award Winner
Steve Alfano is the winner of the third annual McMaster High School Football Achievement Award. Alfano was chosen from a group of nominees from schools in the Halton/Hamilton-Wentworth/Niagara and Haldimand school boards.

Sharp Golden Horseshoe Athlete of the Year
Hamilton professional golfer Alena Sharp has been named the Golden Horseshoe Athlete of the year for 2007. Sharp beat out boxer Jacqui Park of Hamilton and canoeist Mark Oldershaw of Burlington to capture the Bill Sturrup Trophy.

Cathedral honours football greats

Looking for Golden Horseshoe Athlete of the Year
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2007 Golden Horseshoe Athlete of the Year. Candidates of the award must meet a number of criteria to qualify for the award, sponsored by The Hamilton Spectator. Nominations must be submitted by Dec. 31.

No easy task awaits Wismer Award selection group
From a record 19 nominations for the fourth annual Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence the committee has reduced the field to the five finalists. The award is presented in tribute of John Wismer, who devoted two decades to coaching.

Hamilton wins 50th CANUSA Games, ties all-time series
Flint may have led CANUSA after the first day for the 14th time in the last 15 years, but they haven't been able to win in Hamilton since 1981. Hamilton tied the all-time series at 25-25 on Saturday, winning 9 of the 17 events.

CANUSA activities gearing up for annual competition with Flint
The CANUSA Games, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, informally get started on Thursday (June 14) with its annual golf tournament. The 30th golf outing is set for King's Forest Golf Club with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Robert Land Mustangs carry "flag" for inner-city kids
A small group of inner-city kids are getting set for the big leagues. The Robert Land Mustangs, a part of Hamilton's 5-on-5 flag football league, are at Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium as part of the NFL/CFL 5-on-5 Flag Football Regional Tournament.

Calling all coaches. Or more correctly, calling all nominations for coaches. The June 1 deadline is nine days away for candidates for this year's Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence.
